Annual Conference and NEW NING site
At the 2008 conference we created a new social network site for detached youth work. We aim to use the site to keep members informed of development in the fed and as a tool for discussion and debate on matters relating to detached youth work. To start things off we have posted various bits and pieces from the conference including videos of keynote speakers.

Knives, Guns and Gangs: Views from the Street
As a contribution to the ongoing debate, The Federation for Detached Youth Work will be holding a one day seminar to explore the issues around knife and gun usage and gang cultures. Detached youth workers often work closely with young people who deal with these challenges on a daily basis. Our work will be more effective if we can learn together from our diverse experiences.
The seminar will primarily be an opportunity for detached youth workers and those who have an interest in the field to share experiences and ideas.
The FDYW sees this as the
first stage in a process to collect the voices of those in the field. A report
of the day will be compiled and sent to participants and relevant
decision-makers.

Good
Practice working with NEET
The NYA and NfER are carrying out research into good practice in working with young people who are not in education, employment and training on behalf of the Local Government Association.
We are
particularly keen to track down good practice in reaching these young people as this is the bit that often gets
left out of practice guidance. If appropriate, we would like to visit projects
and develop a case study of good practice to share with a wider audience. I
wondered if the Federation for Detached Youth Work might be able to help - we
are particularly looking for detached youth work examples that are targeted
towards young people who are NEET and aged 16-19, with the specific aim of
supporting them out of NEET
status.
